Well, aren’t we just flying through the Old Testament?! Once we got through all of the conquering and dividing of Joshua and Judges, we moved on to some of the fun, more hidden gems of the Old Testament like Ruth. The book of Ruth is only a few short chapters, but it holds a great story of a devout Moabite woman who left her own family to follow her Israelite mother-in-law back to her tribe. After the death of her husband, her mother-in-law Naomi urges her to return to her parents, but instead she replies, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” (Ruth 1:16) And so she is greatly blessed.
“…May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” -Ruth 2:12
Throughout the series, I have mentioned many verses about how God will protect you and fight for you, so I thought this one was a wonderful addition to that theme. Not only will He defend you and carry you through times of trial, but when you take refuge in Him, you will be blessed! Like a parent who revels in her child’s need for her, God takes joy in our dependence on Him. Because of our faith, we will not only experience blessings in this world, but we will receive the ultimate blessing of eternal life with our Heavenly Father and Christ Jesus! And it just doesn’t get any better than that.
Best & Blessings,
